PAWS Adoption Fees

Cats/Kittens: $75

Dogs over 6 months of age: $300

Puppies under 6 months of age: $350

Paws works very hard to make sure the cats and dogs under our care are healthy. The fees above contribute the medical care your pet will receive before they come into your home. All cats are spayed/neutered, UTD on shots and dewormied.  All dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on Rabies and DHLPP, have been dewormed, sometimes multiple times, and are micro-chipped. Puppies who are too young to be altered will be given a spay/neuter certificate to cover the cost of the surgery at one of our participating vets.

We recently conducted a survey to determine current prices of services commonly covered by PAWS Rescue. These prices are from vets that our adopters typically use.

  • Office Visit: $45 - $62
  • Rescued animals are required by VA law to be spayed or neutered:

Neuter (male) $270 - $400

Spay (female) $350 - $500

  • Routine Immunizations:

Rabies Vaccine: $30 - $40 (usually requires an additional doctor fee)

DHLPP: $30 - $45

  • Parasite Screening and Treatment: $45 - $75
  • Heartworm Screening: $50 - $70

For an average sized dog (40-50lbs), the services generally covered by PAWS would range in cost from $550 - $800. That saves the potential adopter $250 -$500. These estimates do not include extreme medical expenses which very frequently occur. Many dogs come from very rural areas where heartworms are common. Treatment for heartworms is upwards of $400 and that's a conservative estimate. PAWS has also had many puppies come with Parvo which generally will cost the rescue between $1000-2000 to treat.
